Energy Center / HVAC Engineer - B

About the Role:
As an HVAC Engineer - B, you'll be the driving force behind the comfort, safety, and efficiency of our facility's environment. From steam and chilled water to emergency power and air flow, you'll operate and maintain the mechanical systems that make everything else possible.

This hands-on, high-responsibility role involves maintaining and operating essential systems like boilers, chillers, air handlers, compressors, and emergency generators. Whether you're on the roof at the cooling tower or in the Energy Center checking systems, you'll be part of a team that makes a real impact every day.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Operate and maintain major mechanical systems including:

    • Steam generation or monitoring

    • Chilled water systems

    • Emergency power generation

  • Manage equipment such as:

    • Boilers, chillers, cooling towers

    • Pumps, air handlers, compressors

    • Refrigeration units and backup power systems

  • Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs using proper tools and techniques - including torch and welding work.

  • Troubleshoot issues using diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.

  • Keep accurate records and documentation on system status and maintenance work.

  • Work safely and efficiently from ladders, scaffolding, and confined spaces as needed.

What You Bring:
  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • EPA Section 608 Universal Technician Certification (required)

  • Membership in a local union

  • Knowledge of HVAC trade tools, techniques, and safety practices - including torch/welding use

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions, read diagrams/blueprints, and complete reports

  • Physical ability to:

    • Push/pull up to 95 lbs and lift up to 50 lbs

    • Perform duties involving climbing, squatting, bending, and extended standing

    • Wear half-mask respirator (OSHA-compliant)

Preferred:
  • Completion of mechanical technical trade school training

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or large industrial facility
