HVAC Mechanic - GSA Facilities - El Paso, TX

Summary:

The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for managing the operations and maintenance of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems within GSA (General Services Administration) facilities located in El Paso, Texas. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the efficient operation and upkeep of HVAC equipment to provide a comfortable and safe environment for building occupants while maintaining a high standard of service quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. HVAC System Maintenance:

    1. Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on HVAC systems, including air handlers, chillers, boilers, pumps, and associated equipment.
    2. Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC equipment to identify and resolve issues promptly.
    3. Execute repairs, replacements, and upgrades to maintain HVAC systems at peak performance.


  2. Preventive Maintenance:

    1. Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for HVAC equipment, including scheduled filter changes, cleaning, lubrication, and system optimization.
    2. Keep detailed records of maintenance activities and equipment condition for reporting and analysis.


  3. Compliance and Documentation:

    1. Ensure that all HVAC maintenance activities adhere to local, state, and federal regulations, including GSA compliance standards.
    2. Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and service history to demonstrate compliance.


  4. Emergency Response:

    1. Respond to emergency HVAC-related issues, including system failures or environmental control problems, in a timely manner.
    2. Collaborate with relevant teams and authorities to resolve emergencies efficiently.


  5. Sustainability and Energy Efficiency:

    1. Promote energy-efficient practices within HVAC operations and maintenance.
    2. Identify opportunities for energy savings and implement strategies to reduce resource consumption and minimize environmental impact.


  6. Safety and Quality Assurance:

    1. Adhere to safety protocols, guidelines, and best practices when working on HVAC equipment.
    2. Maintain a high standard of service quality to ensure HVAC systems meet the required performance standards.


  7. Communication and Collaboration:

    1. Collaborate effectively with other maintenance personnel, contractors, and management to address HVAC-related concerns and ensure efficient facility operation.
    2. Communicate with facility managers and superiors regarding HVAC maintenance needs, updates, and recommendations.




Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in maintaining and repairing HVAC systems, particularly in commercial or institutional settings.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with local HVAC codes, regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of energy-efficient HVAC practices.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability for on-call or emergency response when necessary.
  • HVAC Mechanic must maintain a minimum of 16 hours of continuing education per year from either NATE, HVAC Excellence, or UA Star recognized provider programs. Shall possess EPA 608 Certification, A/C Refrigeration Operator Certification, and one or more of the following certifications or equivalent experience:

    • North American Technician Excellence (NATE) HVAC Service Technician Certification.
    • HVAC Excellence Professional Level Certification.
    • UA Star HVAC Mastery Certification.
    • Union workers provide Journeyman Certifications.


  • Experience in the repair, operation, and preventative maintenance of:

    • Perform required services for (commercial office building, Multi Building site, etc.).
    • Certification to operate and maintain mechanical, plumbing, BAS, HVAC (Boilers, Chillers, AHU's) in commercial buildings.
    • Certification or attestation of building automation control systems such as BAS, Niagara Tridium JACE, Public Address, and Computerized Lighting Systems.
    • Experience in operation and maintenance of architectural and structural systems, fixtures, and equipment.
