This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, and Security. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of experts, you will be responsible for working closely with non destructive test (NDT) teams to support all aspects, efforts and equipment related to verifying the integrity of various launch vehicle and rocket engine components. This includes owning and optimizing inspection processes for hardware as well as designing and fabricating fixtures and tools to aid in inspections and hardware handling.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Own and generate standard non destructive test processes and work instruction to validate that hardware meets requirements.
  • Design fixturing solutions to improve hardware inspection processes and facilitate movement.
  • Create and refine work instructions to support a vast array of non destructive test techniques including: penetrant testing, radiography, shearography, ultrasonic testing, and more.
  • Coordinate directly with NDT Engineering, manufacturing engineering and quality teams to ensure equipment capabilities for inspection of research and flight hardware are met.
  • Provide manufacturing and inspection feedback to design teams with regard to inspection capabilities and inspection strategies.
  • Support day-to-day production and manufacturing tasks.
  • Identify, plan, and execute capital equipment, machine, and layout upgrades to the meet rate production demand
  • Find and eliminate process waste, streamline processes and enable continuous improvement
  • Define, develop, implement, and optimize NDT manufacturing processes of rocket engine components
  • Assist with the development, evaluation, and improvement of nondestructive inspection techniques for multiple methods, including: fluorescent dye penetrant, film and non-film radiography, computed tomography, eddy current, ultrasonic, and shearography
  • Conduct PFMEA studies, mitigate risks and document work instructions
  • Analyze and disposition non-conformances, monitor trends, drive root cause analysis and deploy corrective actions
  • Summarize, document, and communicate testing results to stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
  • 3+ years of experience in a Manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering from a nationally accredited university
  • Experience with NDT processes such as fluorescent dye penetrant, film and non-film radiography, computed tomography, eddy current, ultrasonic, and shearography
  • Proven ability to develop, monitor, and streamline processes
  • Understanding of common aerospace manufacturing processes, including but not limited to: additive manufacturing, casting, laser welding, GTAW welding, electron beam welding, and chemical etching processes
  • Experience with 3D parametric CAD software
  • Proven experience and successful track record developing/starting new processes
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Minitab, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to develop processes compliant to industry quality systems such as AS9100
  • Proven track record of working with diverse teams
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Design for manufacturability, assembly and inspection
  • Experience with mechanical assemblies and optimization of low rate manufacturing
  • Knowledge of principles of inspection, tolerancing and datum schemes, engineering, mechanics of materials and nondestructive testing techniques
  • Experience with process improvement techniques including process mapping and fault analysis Pareto analysis, root cause and corrective action experience
  • SQL, Python, VBA, MATLAB and other data analysis tools

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $83,070.00-$116,298.00
