Job Description Summary
The Department of Clinical Sciences, Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applications from qualified individuals for a clinical track, Assistant/Associate/Full Clinical Professor or Professor of Practice position in Radiology. The Professor of Practice position is ideal for a radiologist currently working in the teleradiology sector who has the desire to work part time in university practice while maintaining a part time commitment to the teleradiology company of their choice.

The Radiology Service at Auburn University is committed to excellence in clinical service, research, and teaching professional veterinary students, residents, and interns. The successful clinical track candidate will be expected to participate in teaching, clinical service, outreach, and research. Teaching responsibilities include clinical and didactic instructional activities related to diagnostic imaging. Clinical service includes diagnostic imaging of clinical patients, teaching veterinary students, supervising house officers and consulting with private practitioners. The percentage of duty assignment will be consistent with the type of position the candidate desires. The Professor of Practice title offers the flexibility of being either full or part time.
Current faculty and staff: The successful candidate would join a large, dedicated and stable radiology section that includes: 4 radiologists, two of which are double boarded (1 double boarded in radiology/radiation oncology and 1 DACVR/ DACVR- EDI), 4 radiology residents, 6 full-time boarded RTs (Radiologic Technologists - Radiology), 1 part-time RT, 1 boarded RT(T) (Radiologic Technologists - Radiology, Radiation Therapist), a full time ultrasound assistant, and a student worker ultrasound assistant.
Facilities: The radiology section supports both small animal and large animal teaching hospitals in diagnostic radiology, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and radiation therapy. Approximately 17,000 imaging studies are performed annually. This includes a robust advanced imaging caseload. The 208,000 sq. ft. Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital opened in February 2014. This hospital features two Siemens x-ray rooms with digital plates, one with fluoroscopy. There are two additional direct digital rooms equipped with Canon plates, one for after-hours emergency imaging and one located in our onsite community practice clinic. There are two large ultrasound rooms housing Toshiba Aplio 300 and 500 ultrasound machines with elastography (strain and shear wave) and microvascular imaging capabilities. We also have a separate room for ultrasound patient preparation and ample space dedicated to dictation and teaching.

The 120,000 sq. ft. J.T. Vaughan Large Animal Teaching Hospital houses an x-ray room with DR Canon plates. Canon 14 X 17 and 11 X 14 wireless digital plates and portable x-ray equipment are utilized for barn and ambulatory work. We also have a Samsung GM85 mobile unit for equine and food animal radiography that is able to go to the barns. We are one of only a few facilities that have the ability to perform cross sectional imaging of the head of standing equine patients with a retrofitted GE VCT 16 slice helical CT. Toshiba Aplio i700 and i600 ultrasound equipment is also available in the large animal hospital. The Ware Imaging Building houses our Seimen's Magnetom Skyra 3T MRI and a 64 slice GE LightSpeed VCT. We are in the process of replacing the 64 slice CT with a 128 slice GE EVO Revolution CT that has a table limit of 675 pounds. The Linear Accelerator Laboratory houses a state-of-the-art Varian Edge Radiosurgery System that was installed in 2019. These machines are available for both large and small animal patients. Nuclear medicine imaging using Enhanced Technologies digital gamma camera with large rectangular field and Mirage software are utilized for both small and large animal patients. All imaging is digital, and we are currently negotiating with vendors for a new PACS system to be installed during the first quarter of 2024. The CVM has its own IT department which provides support to the small and large teaching hospitals.
Collaborative opportunities abound at Auburn, both within the CVM and various departments on main campus. The Auburn University MRI research center ( http://www.eng.auburn.edu/research/centers/mri/) has 3T and 7T Siemens MRI magnets available for research of small animal diseases. A new interventional suite at the CVM contains a GE 9900 C-arm with Nuboom system.
Faculty development is a priority with a formal mentoring program for new faculty through the Department of Clinical Sciences. The Biggio Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning ( wp.auburn.edu/biggio) located on Auburn's main campus is a fantastic resource for all things teaching related including support for instructional technologies. The CVM also has monthly teaching enhancement workshops and a summer teaching institute that has brought nationally recognized speakers to present on a variety of teaching related topics.
