Job Summary

Partners with Development staff to create fundraising strategies and provide critical research information to help move prospects through the fundraising cycle. Develops and implements strategies to effectively manage processes for tracking prospect in the donor database.

  • Works collaboratively as a partner and liaison to College/Schools/Units and leaders to increase the pool of potential major gift donors and provide highly customized and strategic information that helps to build relationships and increase giving. May lead departmental colleagues in special projects and initiatives.
  • Identifies, qualifies, assesses, ranks, and prioritizes donor prospects through analysis of potential donors. Reviews screening results (data) for accuracy and completeness to expand the prospect pool.
  • Utilizes various database and online resources in the systematic and consistent approach to gathering accurate and substantial data for the fundraising process. Discusses resources needs with Development Officers and/or Advancement leadership. Asks questions to gain clarity on profile requests and works with assigned units and/or Development Officers to ensure that information provided was useful.
  • Identifies new major prospects and analyzes biographical and financial data to determine prospects' available resources and interests in relation to the University's overall funding priorities
  • Retrieves, analyzes, and interprets data. Analyzes data to identify discrepancies. Conducts quality control practices, regular prospect data-audits and captures metrics to ensure data integrity. May assist in development and implementation of prospect development improvement procedures and protocols for University Advancement.
  • Protects the privacy and confidentially of information and files in his/her possession consistent with federal and state laws, and Board of Trustees and University policy. All prospect research collection follows the professional standards outlined by the
  • Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement. Responsible for implementing, updating, and documenting policies/procedures relating to data entry standards, reporting, queries, and/or any database management action, following the standards outlined by the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA).
  • Serves as liaison between the university community and the department regarding the overall directions of reporting and constituent updates within the database. Makes recommendations to management based on conversations with users on how to provide information to our clients that help them in the fundraising efforts.
  • Monitors and manages processes associated with on-going relationship management, including building and maintaining fundraiser portfolios, defining and implementing methods to evaluate and drive portfolio productivity, monitor and report on any key measured of fundraiser activity (as defined by Development leadership). Works to ensure the effective and timely capture of relationship management data in database.
  • Assists the Senior Director of Prospect Development & Data Management with ordering published and electronic resources to support the process of identifying and researching prospects.
  • Maintains periodic face-to-face contact with Development Officers, reviews top tier and assignment portfolios, and works with front-line fundraisers on prospect management strategy.
  • Researches, collects, and synthesizes large amounts of information based on fundraising need. Identifies researches and analyzes information to create profiles, bios and research profiles on current donors, prospects, alumni, parents and friends of FIU for future major and principal gift cultivation and solicitation as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience of research and prospect management; OR six (6) years of experience of research and prospect management; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved and where meticulous attention to detail is required.
  • Ability to effectively present ideas and concepts in written or presentation format and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus.
  • Expertise in prospect research and management, development and/or fundraising, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with relational databases (Raiser's Edge), word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel) and experience with online databases such as Lexis-Nexis. Proficiency with data management, building complex data queries, segmentation, and visualization. Fluency in CRM systems.

$58,882 - $62,000
