POSITION SUMMARY:

The Audiology Assistant will, after appropriate training and demonstration of competency, performs delegated tasks that are prescribed, directed, and supervised by a certified and/or licensed audiologist. The audiology assistant will work in the Otolaryngology clinic in the Department of Audiology, as determined by Massachusetts laws and regulations.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:


  • Performing assistance during audiological evaluations.
  • Instructing patients and families in the use of hearing technology equipment.
  • Troubleshooting hearing technology devices, recommending repairs, and drafting requests for authorization of parts and repairs.
  • Maintaining organization and recording of hearing technology equipment.
  • Scheduling patient appointments.
  • Attending meetings.
  • Maintaining organization of clinical equipment and records.
  • Entering data into databases and extracting data as needed.
  • On occasion, newborn hearing screenings, reporting to the Department of Public Health, and completing clerical duties related to the hearing aid program.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must have:


  • Possess at minimum, an associate's degree in audiology from a training program approved by a national certifying body, or a bachelor's degree from a college with a audiology assistant certificate program, or a bachelors degree with a major in the area of audiology, or possess an associate, bachelor, or advanced degree and complete 18 credit hours in coursework in audiology, 6 of which must be in disorders of speech, language or hearing; other coursework as Board approved.
  • State licensure in Massachusetts as an Audiology Assistant
  • Complete 20 hours of observation of clinical practice with a licensed audiologist.
  • OPTIONAL BUT PREFERRED: completion of ASHA's Audiology Assistants Certification (C-AA)
  • The analytical skills and judgment to interpret data and take the appropriate action in circumstances or situations vary.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet BMC's mission statement and attitude toward patient care
  • Organization and ability to pay attention to detail
  • Professionalism
