POSITION TITLE: COMMUNITY CENTER ASSISTANT

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: COMMUNITY CENTER DIRECTOR

UNIT: WHITE CENTER CORPS

STATUS: REGULAR FULL-TIME/.NON-EXEMPT

GENERAL STATEMENT:

The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church, and the goal of all programs is the spiritual regeneration of all people.

FUNCTION OF POSITION:

As a Community Center Assistant, you will work to assist with developing, implementing, and maintaining thriving programs for the Salvation Army's Seattle White Center location. Your role is to provide quality and sustainable services to all individuals who desire to be a part of our growing community.

SCHEDULE:

Monday - Friday with the possibilities of evenings, weekends, holidays

Hours are subject to change during the summer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Ability to assist in the organization and implementation of the Summer Day Camp programs as assigned by the Community Center Director

* Create a positive experience and atmosphere in both the Gym and Game room.

* Actively recruit volunteers to assist with events, activities, and other program needs

* Work with the community center director to provide events regularly such as tournaments, game challenges, trips, and any other activities

* Supervise the gym, game room, and the front office as assigned; these areas should not be left unattended except when relieved by another staff person

* Assist in the organization of and lead activities as assigned

* Must be informed of programs, hours of operations, and community center events, along with promoting and encouraging members and community to participate

* Work in a manner that enhances an inclusive and supportive community through building rapport, respecting, and engaging with individuals in the community

* Respond to telephone, email, and in-person inquiries in a timely manner

* Maintain timely communication with the supervisor

* Must maintain daily statistics and other statistics as assigned

* Must clean and help maintain the cleanliness of all gym areas

* Must know all exits and emergency exits, location of fire extinguishers, and location of first aid supplies

* Must issue all equipment and games only to those with a valid membership. Follow proper checkout procedures assigned by the Community Center Director

* Must be able to notify the supervisor of any program or equipment needs that are the Community Assistant's direct responsibilities.

* Community Assistant is responsible for all programs, activities, or events during the absence of the Community Center Director

* Must check both clients and members in using the KROC system CCMS

* Must be 21 or older and have a current WA Driver License

* Must be able to clear the Motor Vehicle Records check

* Must be able to drive for other programs when necessary or any additional tasks as assigned.

* Any Other job-related duties assigned by the supervisor

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

* A High School diploma or GED completion is required.

* Ability to read and write clearly in English

* Minimum of two years experience working in a supervisory role with youth.

* Working with children in an educational environment.

* A valid WA driver's license is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

* Ability to quickly learn and apply new information/skills

* Experience with tutoring multiple age groups

* Ability to demonstrate leadership abilities

* Understanding and appreciation of children

* Possess or obtain within 90 days of hire, a current Red Cross First Aid and CPR certificate card

* Must complete and adhere to Protecting the Mission requirements and guidelines, including the ability to pass a TSA background check

* WA State Food Worker's Card must be attained within one month of employment

* Willingness to serve a diverse population

* Sensitivity to and understanding of the comprehensive mission of The Salvation Army

* Strong verbal and written communication skills

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team

* Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision

* Ability to work in a challenging environment and maintain poise under pressure

* Ability and willingness to keep information confidential

* Ability to work with diverse age groups

* Ability to de-escalate confrontational situations

SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:

* Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook (email and calendar)

* Data Entry - able to learn skills required to enter clients

* Knowledgeable of basic internet skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis

* Ability to operate a telephone and a desktop or laptop computer

* Ability to frequently move lift up to 35 lbs. (emptying trash, moving boxes, etc.)

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered.

Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months' service time.

Paid Vacation:



  • Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
  • Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
  • Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months' service time.


Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
