Job Description

  • Develop and manage syllabus materials using the University of Missouri-Kansas City Syllabus Generator (SG) and/or Required Syllabus Elements Templates.
  • The adjunct instructor is responsible for selecting and compiling tests, assignments, and/or online discussion exercise that permit measurement of student performance relative to standardized learning objects and student outcomes.
  • Submit a copy of all syllabi to the department to ensure that course(s) comply(ies) with the University of Missouri-Kansas City standards.
  • Coordinate courseware and curriculum with academic department chair. The adjunct instructor is responsible for reviewing any textbook and other courseware changes with the academic department chair.
  • Maintain, update, manage, and ensure accuracy of content on Canvas for all assigned courses.
  • Utilize Canvas to effectively engage and communicate with students to supplement and support course and program learning outcomes.
  • Maintain effective and timely student assessment and feedback.
  • Check college email regularly and maintain effective communication/contact with students, administrators, faculty colleagues, etc.
  • Input final grades into Canvas and Pathway and submit a copy of all gradebooks to the department on or before grade deadlines established by the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in History or a related field with at least eighteen (18) credit hours in graduate level History courses from an accredited institution.
  • Evidence of the ability to teach and work with persons from differing backgrounds.
  • Experience with Canvas learning management systems and Pathway.
  • Knowledge and/or experience using a variety of instructional delivery modes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in History or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach (as illustrated by syllabi, student/peer evaluations, teaching awards, etc.).
  • Demonstrate commitment to student learning outcomes and assessment and improvement of student learning.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Commensurate on education, experience, and internal equity.

Part-time, non-benefit eligible unranked non tenure track position. Appointment period is for the semester with consideration for reappointment.
