Financial Portfolio Analyst
Job Summary The Financial Portfolio Analyst is a critical member of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (DPBS) Financial Services Team and plays a crucial role in the overall successful support and management of funding for the Faculty & Principal Investigators. As a valued Team member in the Financial Services Unit, this position will benefit from the vast pool of experience that exists within the Team, all who are ready and willing to provide support and training to new Team members. It is a collaborative work environment. The Analyst will participate in larger dynamic Team projects, which will help to build the experience, understanding and networking skills for successful career development at UCSF
The Financial Portfolio Analyst independently provides broad analytical fund management to a group of Faculty and provides analytical support for complex budget, financial, or resource analysis for the department and various components. The Analyst ensures Faculty are provided with high quality, efficient, responsive and responsible financial analysis, reporting and forecasting, and administration services.
The Financial Portfolio Analyst will rely on strong communication skills to be able to present and discuss data and reports to various client groups: staff, PIs, Department Leadership. The candidate will successfully research, interpret, clarify and apply all applicable Departmental, University and Agency policies and regulation, and to be able to clearly communicate the complexities of language around such polices and regulations. This position requires a high level of ethics and professional standards to handle sensitive matters with tact and sound judgment.
The candidate will have financial management experience in a variety of program types of funding (sponsored federal and private funding, gift/endowment funding, clinical trial funding, JPAs etc.), involving complex, multi-layered portfolios.The candidate will demonstrate the ability to research, interpret, clarify and apply all applicable Departmental, University and Agency policies and regulation and will utilize advanced contracts and grants concepts to manage high volume and high complexity transactions. This position requires a high level of ethics and professional standards to handle sensitive matters with tact and sound judgment. The Analyst will also perform additional duties as assigned.
This is a hybrid-remote position, which includes a combination of 2 days on-site and remote work.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $85,700 - $128,600 (Annual Rate). Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum three years experience or equivalent combination of experience / training.
- Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of fund management and administration.
- Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
- Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
- Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
- Independent judgment and strong organization and communication skills and customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
- Proven interpersonal skills with peers throughout the organization; strong service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Proven ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment.
- Proven ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
- Proven ability using spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
- Ability to independently gather required information to organize, and perform financial analysis assignments.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to function as a member of a team.
- Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
- Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
