Position Purpose

Acting on own initiative, the Compliance Business Relationship Manager (CBRM) - Bulk Operations is charged with establishing trusted and strategic working relationships among the bulk production business units, focusing on regulatory requirements. Maximizes efficiencies to support mandatory federal reporting for all Delicato Family Wines (DFW) bonded premises. Manages the Federal Compliance Bulk Wine Analyst team. Participates in the development, evaluation, design, and implementation of cross-departmental training programs to further develop staff. Work is generally of a critical nature, requiring a broad working knowledge of federal and California state industry regulatory compliance requirements.

Functional Responsibility

  • Manages and monitors day-to-day operations and team performance to ensure smooth workflows and that company standards are met
  • Manages company culture and holds self, peers, and direct reports accountable for demonstrating a constructive company culture through influential, personal behavior and actions; encourages strong work ethic and fosters an environment of trust and respect
  • Develops and aligns individual goals with the department's operational goals; ensures that decisions, actions, and priorities are aligned with the company's vision, mission, and strategies
  • Researches best practices, stays abreast of industry trends, and maintains awareness of regulatory changes to ensure compliance and continually improve operations
  • Assists in preparing the departmental budget, monitors spending, and directs team in cost-effective operations to ensure adherence to financial objectives
  • Monitors performance and regularly communicates with direct reports to achieve mutual understanding and desired results
  • Partners with immediate manager to determine staffing needs; attracts, motivates, and retains a workforce with the appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities to achieve goals and objectives
  • Provides employees with a safe, healthy, and rewarding work environment; ensures delivery and completion of monthly safety topics
  • Communicates and supports change initiatives and decisions in an effective manner to successfully guide team through change
  • Fosters a work environment that encourages creative thinking, promotes flexibility, and drives innovation
  • Addresses employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner; notifies HR Business Partner and keeps immediate manager informed as appropriate
  • Ensures compliance and consistent application of company policies, initiatives, and decisions
  • Coaches, guides, and develops direct reports; fully engages in the GPS (Performance Management) process; provides high-quality feedback, and ensures proper GPS documentation of employee performance, recognition, and deficiencies

Essential Duties

  • Serves as the Compliance Business Relationship Managerworking cross-functionally with Winemaking, Production, Planning, Quality Control, Grower Relations, and IS on Federal regulatory bulk wine compliance processes, procedures and workflows, identifies problems and recommends/implements cost effective solutions
  • Provides support to business unit leadership on federal compliance requirements, including the Federal Bulk Operations Compliance Team/Process Control and provides management reports identifying potential risks including recommendations/implementation for cost effective solutions
  • Manages and directs the Federal Compliance Bulk Wine Analyst team operations and staffing
  • Develops, implements, and maintains performance measurement and feedback tools for Federal Compliance Bulk Wine Analyst staff
  • Manages and executes TTB regulatory reporting requirements for Bulk Wine, Wine Spirits, Grape Material and DSP Operations, identifying root causes to issues and implementing solutions
  • Assists the Director Business Services -Bulk Operations with all internal and TTB product integrity audits acting as a subject matter expert surrounding processing operations; manages Federal bulk records retention program
  • Partners with the Director Business Services -Bulk Operations to coordinate and execute all DFW bonded premises year end physical inventories for bulk wine/juice, ingredients, and barrels including offsite operations; conducts a debrief with each facility to identify successes and areas of improvement
  • Collaborates with business partners in recommending problem resolutions related to DV System functionality; acts as DV System Admin supporting the creation of grape, wine/juice item numbers, user access/role maintenance, operations/routes, etc.
  • Mentors and trains employees to utilize the DV system in support of compliance requirements
  • Assists in the processing of all federal regulatory bulk wine special applications, notices and claims as required by federal and state agencies
  • Develops current procedural documentation for the Business Services Division for bulk wine operations which meets all ISO requirements
  • Assists in the development and delivery of regulatory compliance to business partners
  • Partners with cross functional management teams (IS, Production, Winemaking, Planning, Quality Control, etc.) to identify critical functions and assists in the development of enterprise procedures and training materials
  • Practices and encourages open communication and problem-solving skills which cultivate a high level of team interaction
  • Assists with special projects as needed

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management or related field or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 5 to 7 years' inventory experience within a regulated industry
  • 1 to 2 years supervisory experience

  • Strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Proficient in desktop applications; MS office & SAP experience preferred
  • Strong analytical skills; works effectively with numbers and spreadsheets

California Pay Transparency Disclaimer: This is a Exempt position. The pay range for this position is $91,062.24 to $142,541.76. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity and alignment with market data.
