JOB TITLE: Engineering Manager PLANT/DEPARTMENT: Defense Engineering DIRECTED BY: Director of Engineering IMPORTANT WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: Engineers, Drafters, Designers, Program Managers, other Engineering Managers, Plant Management DIRECTS: Sr. Project Engineers, Project Engineers, Design Engineers, Designers, Drafters PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Provide leadership and direction to the engineering staff. Trident Heavy Equipment Group (Trident HEG) is a company with over 100 years of experience in designing, manufacturing, and installing a wide variety of Navy, Coast Guard, and maritime equipment specifically designed for critical applications in harsh marine environments. Our capabilities include design engineering (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, structural, analysis and software development), integrated logistics support (ILS), project management, material processing, fabrication, exotic material welding capabilities, machining, coating, assembly (e.g., mechanical, electrical, hydraulic), testing and field service. With a broad resume of products including shipboard cargo/weapons elevators and lift platforms, articulating ramps, roll on/roll off ramps, closures, underway replenishment systems and material handling and heavy lift machinery such as boat handling cranes, overhead cranes, gantry cranes and davits, and custom designed machinery to suit any application. The company's performance engineered products and machinery are manufactured in plants located in Rhinelander, Wisconsin and Iron River and Ontonagon, Michigan, all within a 90-mile radius of each other with over 300,000 sq. ft of covered manufacturing capabilities. The Trident HEG Design and Technology Center is the hub for engineering activities, located in a 24,000 sq. ft, LEED certified building situated on a thirteen-acre campus in Kingsford, Michigan. As an Engineering Manager at Trident HEG, your primary responsibility will be to provide leadership and direction to your engineering team. You also will work closely with our program managers, buyers, sales team and plant managers while developing proposals and executing awarded projects. Key duties include: Ensure that manufacturability, safety and technical requirements are met for products. Support bid and proposal efforts with conceptual designs, test plans and cost estimates. Manage resources within the department to meet schedule deadlines. Develop the competence and skills of your engineering team, leveraging each person's specific strengths. Maintain cooperative relationships with our customers' technical staff. Monitor project status and take corrective actions when variances occur. Identify and recommend innovations in products, services and information that expand reach of the business unit in the marketplace. Support the manufacturing plants in Iron River (MI), Ontonagon (MI) and Rhinelander (WI), especially during first unit builds and qualification testing. Trident HEG's facilities are located in northern Michigan and Wisconsin, an area offering four season recreational opportunities and a small town living experience. The area has hundreds of inland lakes, nearby access to the Great Lakes, many hiking and biking trails, additional trails for ATV's and snowmobiling, millions of acres of national, state and county forest land, and many golf courses and ski hills. Strong communities exist in each town, affording opportunities for employees to engage with their neighbors.
