Pathology Services Coordinator

Job Summary
Provides coordination and support for the Pathology Departments, Pathologists, and Clinical Advisors through the appropriate use of technology and/or other tools. Assists with the day-to-day operations of the departments and provides excellent customer service. Exhibits initiative, ability to multi-task and knowledge to meet deadlines, and handle multiple priorities.
Essential Functions
  • Utilizes the appropriate technology and software applications to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of the pathology department including timekeeping editing, workload distribution, and maintenance of pathologist/department calendars.
  • Communicates, collaborates, and acts as a liaison with patients, support staff, pathologists, members of the health care team and others in order to facilitate continuity and coordination of pathology services.
  • Responsible for complex EMR/EHR transcribing, scanning and uploading to LIS with high level of accuracy.
  • Performs/coordinates office duties such as sorting/distributing mail, copying, filing, faxing, completing forms, and ordering/maintaining equipment/supplies.
  • Prepares material/records for clinical conferences with guidance from the Pathologist. Performs digitization of tissue slides and evaluates quality of images for clinical and demonstration purposes.
  • Collects, compiles and prepares data for analysis and develops systems that facilitate tracking of data. Independently maintains accountability for completion of assigned projects.
  • Prepares pathology material for reference laboratory testing according to laboratory protocol ensuring appropriateness of specimens, accurate test orders and test information.
  • Creates invoices for various types of research, medicolegal, and industry focused work.
Qualifications
  • Required Associate's Degree or equivalent business, office administration, or healthcare related field
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree related field
  • 3 years of relevant experience Laboratory support services, secretarial or administrative support Required
